PLUG

One of the most overlooked components in the signal path is the humble 3.5mm TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) connector. While most manufacturers would use a standard cheap 3.5mm plug, the terms cheap and standard simply do not apply to our products. We experimented with dozens of aftermarket plugs and realized that we couldn’t use any of them for one reason or another. We had to design a new plug that was sonically and ergonomically superior to the rest. In the end we choose carbon fiber as the ideal material for our connector due to the following benefits;

  • Sonically superior due to its resonance characteristic as compared to alloys
  • Non-magnetic, does not produce eddy currents
  • Durability, will not oxidize or corrode
  • Light weight

We had to get the size just right so that it would be minimally intrusive when used directly out of smart devices and when used on increasingly popular portable amplifiers. At the same time, it had to be big enough to accommodate the specialized cables that we wanted to use and had to provide for a comfortable grip because it is one of the most frequent contact points that you will have with your earphones.

Another often overlooked feature on our plug is the offset that is integrated onto our connector. This offset is for the convenience of our customers with fairly thick smart phone cases. We experimented on hundreds of cases and on most of the popular Digital Audio Players on the market before arriving at this simple solution. It is in the simplest matters that we take for granted in everyday use. But such matters cannot be viewed lightly during the design process because it can easily translate into an abhorrence or nuisance when using the product.

The Awesome Plug was introduced to allow for a multitude of configurations on the plug end for use on various types of players. Developed to future proof your cables, Awesome Plug is available in 2.5mm TRRS, 3.5mm TRS, and in future, other types of plug endings. The 90-degree nature of the plug keeps it minimally intrusive when used directly out of smart devices.

CABLES

To us, every cable has a unique sonic signature as well as certain physical properties. Sometimes a good sounding cable would end up having horrible physical properties e.g. cable-born mechanical noise, weak tensile strength, stiff, easily tangled etc. After numerous experimentation, we ended up with some extraordinary cables… introducing… The Fat Cable and The Truth.
The Fat Cable was design with the following characteristics in mind;

  • To be as transparent sounding as possible
  • Low cable-born noise
  • Flexible yet durable
  • Resistant to adverse weather
  • Tangle free

The development of The Fat Cable, was one of the particularly problematic areas of the entire design process.  There are many aspects to be considered when developing an ideal cable for use in earphones.  The very nature of their use is entrenched in portability.  In addition to the sound qualities, the cable must be pliable, flexible, durable and manageable during the manufacturing process.  This means that every change in the cable diameter, jacket material composition and conductor weave could result in a dramatic change to any of the characteristics mentioned above.  Even the color of the dye used could affect these parameters.  In traditional home audio applications, such fanatical attention to construction methods can be relegated to the back burner, but in portable devices it is tantamount to the building of a quality product.  It is such meticulous attention to finite details that separates us from the competition.

The Truth cable is the end result of the collaboration between Dita Audio and Van den Hul. Our brief to Mr A.J. Van den Hul (owner & designer) was very simple… build us the very best cable possible. Using over 3 decades of experience and state-of-the-art technology in metallurgy, a cable of such sonic purity was created that we couldn’t call it by any other name but The Truth…
We also decided not to use removable cable connectors as doing so would mean more joints and reliability issues.

All joins are soldered with Van den Hul Lead-free Silver solder for best sound.

Being so proud of the The Truth, we felt that it would be too selfish not to share this cable with the rest of the Audio community. As such, we will be offering The Truth as an aftermarket replacement cable for certain models of earphones & headphones in our online store.

CHASSIS

One of the largest contributor to poor sound is the resonances caused by the chassis. Most of the time the use of plastics is the root cause of such colorations. The problem with plastics is that most of the time it likes to add its own sound to the music, especially in the all critical mid-range whereby the chassis sings along with the driver. The only way to avoid such coloration was for us to over engineer the chassis. Every part of our chassis from our Answer series is meticulously milled and turned on modern multi-axis CNC machines from a solid block of 6063-T6 aluminum. Only by going to such extreme manufacturing processes could we produce a chassis with virtually no discernible colorations, minimum resonances and maximum dynamics.  

In almost every major speaker review published, there will be some reference to box colorations.  This is a critical part of box speaker designs and it is an area that we feel is vastly overlooked in modern earphone designs.  Much of our R&D budget and development time was spent on this area because we wanted to eliminate any chassis induced colorations that occurs in traditionally built earphones.

Our chassis design also places the center of gravity a lot closer to the ear, this helps to achieve a better seal for greater performance.

Countless amount of hours went into ensuring that the ergonomics, design, fit and finish of the earpieces live up to the total “Dita Experience” quality. 

 

DRIVER

To fully exploit our ultra rigid chassis, we needed to design a state-of-the-art driver that is ultra-lightweight, ultra-fast and rigid driver. The combination of both lightness and rigidity gives us a smooth and wide bandwidth response curve, along with stunningly quick impulse response.

The difference with our product is that we truly believe in the use of a dynamic transducer.  The matured state of the dynamic driver used in audiophile grade sound re-production is a testament to the longevity and practical benefits of it. The use of a single driver frees us from increasingly complicated cross over designs that can have phase problems which ultimately lead to problems in coherency.  In home loudspeakers, there is ample space for the design and use of premium parts in the crossover to ensure that the sound quality is top notch.  Such parts have not yet trickled down to their miniature counterparts.  As such, the required use of these components is often sourced from those used in other non audiophile related industries.  In our opinion, this results in unnecessary compromises that cannot be tolerated.   Rather than follow market trends, we would prefer to follow our “elegant simplicity, ultimate purity” design philosophy. To us, only by using a single crossover-less dynamic driver, could we achieve a very precise, and coherent sound that we feel is true to the music.
